Employment Opportunities Abound in North Dakota

Proper Training Will Put You Ahead of All the Rest

North Dakota’s exploding economy continues to provide ample jobs to those that are ready to take advantage of the opportunity.

Take San Francisco-based Fortune 500 company, URS Corp., for example. URS employs 47,000 employees worldwide and is looking to establish a base for oil and gas services in Bismarck-Mandan for the foreseeable future.

However, it’s not as easy as it may sound, according to Steve McManamon, who oversees URS energy services in the upper Midwest. In speaking about the North Dakota talent pool he says, “We’ve found it a pretty tight employment market. That’s probably one of our biggest constraints, finding enough people to meet our market demand.”

Ken Royse, vice president with Bartlett & West, a Kansas-based engineering firm with offices in Bismarck, concurs: “We can’t keep up and can’t find people to fill the chairs.” Bartlett & West has hired around 25 new people here in the past year and has been expanding its offices on East Century Avenue. “We’re not done hiring. We’re looking for new people all the time,” Royse said. “The market is good in North Dakota.”

Fred Hudson, spokesman for Ulteig, which has hired six fulltime employees in its Bismarck office in the past year and recently opened a Williston location, says, “Retention is a big thing. That’s always our issue: keeping good people.”

The bottom line is that there are plenty of employment opportunities in North Dakota right now, and the number of available positions seems to be increasing every day. And those that have the proper training, like that provided by Dale Carnegie Training of North Dakota, will have the upper hand in being the first ones to take advantage of these important positions.
